Avoid Bank Text Message Scams

With the ever-rapid advancements in technology, scammers are getting more creative, making it more challenging for people to recognize fraudulent schemes. Tactics are continuously evolving and extend beyond phishing emails and phone calls amongst other high-pressured strategies. Fraudsters are good at what they do and deceive unsuspecting people by also sending realistic text messages that appear to be from their bank.

A bank text scam often includes the bank’s name and a recognized retailer. This type of scam is a quick and efficient method for gaining access to accounts. The text message may inquire if the person has tried to make a purchase of a certain amount at a specific store or claim there’s been an unauthorized charge on their account.

Important: VeraBank will NEVER contact you via text message asking for sensitive information. If you receive a text message from someone claiming to be from VeraBank, do not share passcodes, PINs, account numbers, social security numbers, or other info. If you are suspicious, do not reply and call us using the number on verabank.com, via email or chat. Don’t click any links that the suspicious individual may have sent you.

Protect Yourself from Text Message Scams:

  • Be cautious
  • Avoid Clicking Links
  • Never Share Personal Information
  • Verify the Source
  • Report Suspicious Messages
